The Japanese Society on Thrombosis hosted an annual community public lecture in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture on March 2, 2008, with about 1,000 people participating in the event. This event was co-hosted by Eisai, and supported by Ishikawa Medical Association, Ishikawa Pharmaceutical Association and Kanazawa Pharmaceutical Association.
This year marks 4th year of the public lecture started in 2005 with the aim of educating people about thrombosis, how to prevent and treat the condition.
In keeping with the theme for this year, “extending healthy life expectancy-for fulfilling old age”, the public lecture encouraged the attendants to think what they could do to prevent and treat thrombosis including stroke, cardiac infarct, and travelers' thrombosis.
In the keynote lecture, which was given with some picture to make the explanation very plain, the audience learned basic knowledge about what would happen when blood clumps together, and how a blood clot was formed.
Then, four panelists who were physicians from Kanazawa University made professional comments about the questions from the attendants.
The final speech was about what should be done to keep the vessels young. The speaker introduced some tips to stay healthy and enjoy active life, and recommended to practice at least one of these things.
Eisai continues to host the Community Public Lecture as part of its educational activities on thrombosis.
