A magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in Sichuan province, China, on May 12, 2008. To offer every possible help for people affected, Eisai activated relief operations as follows.

On May 13, the following day of the hit of the earthquake, Eisai established an earthquake task force within Eisai China Inc., headed by the President of Eisai China. The task force is gathering the latest information about the earthquake from various media, and checking the most-current situation of the affected area frequently with Eisai's sales base located in Cheng-du, as well as providing supports to Eisai employees and their family, and all others affected by the earthquake.
On May 15, the 4th day from the earthquake hit the region, the President and the director of sales department of Eisai China Inc. arrived in Cheng-du and gave directions to the team.
1.Relief operation
1)Eisai offered relief items including first-aid kit and drugs, flashlights, masks and bandages for the emergency medical centers in affected areas.
2)For the West China Hospital (with 4,000 beds) in Cheng-du, Eisai offered relief items including bandages, gauze, surgery gloves, masks, and syringes along with offer to work in the hospital as volunteers. The Director of the West China Hospital, to express his deep appreciation toward the offers, presented a letter of gratitude, which was received by the President and director of sales department of Eisai China while they were in Cheng-du.
3)Eisai offered surgical instruments and necessary items for surgery (such as bandages, gauze, surgical gloves, masks and syringes) for the teams of doctors deployed by the Ministry of Health from all over China to provide medical relief activities for the disaster victims.
4)Eisai provided daily necessities (such as blanket, tents, wet tissues, plastic sheets, umbrellas, garbage bags) to the Sichnan branch of Red Cross Society of China.
2.Donation
Eisai China donated 500 million Chinese yuan to the head office of Red Cross Society of China (Beijing). The President of Eisai China attended a hand-over ceremony and gave the relief money on behalf of Eisai. Red Cross Society of China expressed deep thanks and promised to send a letter of gratitude and some commemorative gift.
Eisai sincerely hope and pray for early recovery of the disaster areas and those directly affected.
