[Environmental Activities] Eisai Kawashima Industrial Complex Wins Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare's Prize for promoting Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Eisai Kawashima Industrial Complex was awarded the Health, Labour and Welfare's Prize of 2008, one of the sections of the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Promoter Awards. The plant manager of Kawashima Industrial Complex, attended the prize-giving ceremony held on October 21, 2008.

Every year, “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Promotion Council” honors businesses and organizations that have successfully addressed the three Rs (3R) — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle- to encourage these initiatives. This award marked the 17th anniversary since its establishment, and it has become one of the largest and most well-recognized awards for environment/3R activities. The Awards consists of the “Prime Minister Prize” and Minister's Prize of related government ministries, and Eisai received the “Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare' Prize”.

Aiming to achieve production/research activities that co-exist with nature, Kawashima Industrial Complex, ever since its opening in 1966, has been making continuous efforts to protect global environment, including promotion of 3R activities and proper management of chemicals.

Eisai Kawashima Industrial Complex was recognized for the Prize particularly for promoting effective utilization of resources in order to reduce environmental impacts. These efforts include:

  • Promoting 3R of chemicals used at Synthesis Section in the Industrial Complex and of wastes generated form the Industrial Complex
  • Cooperation with local communities
  • Creative and original approach for effective use of resources, such as making benches from withered pine trees
  • Organizing environmental education programs for elementary and junior high school students in local communities, as well as its employees
